Abstract

1319892 Heating I.C. engine charge FILTERWERK MANN & HUMMEL GmbH 19 April 1971 [27 Feb 1970] 22681/71 Heading F1B [Also in Division F2] A pivotable valve 6 for controlling the flow through unheated and preheated air passages 2 and 3 of an intake filter 1 has its shaft 7 acted on by a force in a direction to close the passage 2 and by a thermostat 13 positioning stops 21a, 21b for limiting pivoting movement. A weight (11), Fig. 2 (not shown), and/or a spring provide the force on the shaft 7 and the stops 21a, 21b are formed by a ring or fork on the rod 12 of the wax or steam pressure thermostat 13. The stops 21a, 21b co-operate with a crank-pin 9a on a cranked end portion 9 of the shaft 7. The rod 12 is adjustable between end positions in which the passage 2 or the passage 3 is closed, the portion 20 of the rod providing for thermostat extension beyond the extension providing closure of passage 2. At intermediate temperatures the valve 6 is movable by the induction air flow from a position with the crankpin 9a engaging the stop 21b to a position engaging the stop 21a, Figs.3 and 4 (not shown). The air flowing through the passage 3 is heated by heat radiated from the engine exhaust pipe.
