Abstract

385,192. Rotary pumps. BECKER, O., 8, Gennebreckerstrasse, Barmen, Germany. May 10, 1932, No. 13429. [Class 110 (ii).] A rotary blower in which the air pressure on the suction side is below atmospheric and which delivers air at, or above, atmospheric pressure, is provided with a passage which connects the working chamber with the atmosphere after the suction port is closed by a valve 8. In Fig. 1, the pump delivers air at atmospheric pressure and passages 14 in each end cover admit outside air into the working chamber for cooling purposes. For silencing purposes the cross section of the two passages 14 is greater than that of a port 17 which admits air into a vessel 16 attached to the side of the pump casing 4. The vanes are pressed outwards by centrifugal force. A non-return ball valve may be arranged in each passage 14. Fig. 2 illustrates a suction and a pressure pump in which the passages 14 have their inner ports 15 situated within the periphery of the drum 6 so that the passages are closed except when grooves 18 in the drum allow air to flow into the working space cut off from both suction and delivery ports. The delivery is increased and the chamber cooled. The invention, which is stated to be used in paperworking machinery, is not restricted to the machines described.
