June 22, 1932, No. 17640. Convention date, Sept. 8, 1931. [Class 39 (i).] A lamp or gas-filled rectifier has main electrodes 4, 4<1> and adjoining auxiliary electrodes 5, 51 which are connected to the remote main electrodes through resistances constituted by coatings 8, 8<1> on the exterior of the tube. The coatings may be of graphite or metal, may be near one another, and may be formed as reflectors. The electrodes may be cold, or heated by the discharge. When the tube is switched on, short discharges are initiated between the auxiliary and main electrodes, and a long weaker discharge between the capacitatively acting coatings.
