Abstract
383,072. Hand wheels. BLUEMEL BROS., Ltd. and BLUEMEL, F. W., Wolston, near Coventry. Nov. 21, 1931, No. 32301. [Class 80 (iv).] In a hand or steering wheel, separately constructed arms 5 connecting a hub 6 with a hollow rim 4 have attachment portions at both ends, those at their outer ends extending across the interior of the rim and being secured thereto. The arms 5 are of flat section and may be resilient or rigid. The outer attachment portions 8 extend transversely inside the rim 4 on either side of the arms 5. Reinforcement strips 9 having serrated edges 11, which may be omitted, are welded to the parts 8 and covered by the rim 4, the serrations 11 projecting through a slot in the inside surface of the rim. The rim 4 is welded to the parts 8, 9 at either or both of their curved edges. The attachment portions 7 at the inner ends of the arms 5 are of arcuate form and are clamped between a flange 12 on the hub 6 and a cover ring 13 by rivets. The arms 5 and the rim 4 may be coated with celluloid or other suitable material.
