[Class 20 (ii).] Section bar s for mine arches are formed with asymmetric web portions, are curved, and are joined end to end by flat or curved joints by cutting away flange portions, the web portions overlapping and being secured by bolts or rivets, the flange portions of the bars being continuous. H- or I-section bars can be rolled continuously with the web 1 displaced laterally from the symmetrical axis of the section, cut into lengths and the lengths reversed so that the projecting web portions 2 can be overlapped. The joint may be formed as a step 4 by removing the end flange portion only on one side of each bar, Figs. 6 and 8. For a channel-section bar, each length must be rolled separately and the displacement of web on one portion is sufficient to receive the web on the adjacent portion.
