Abstract

405,551. Mine-roof supports. RICHARDS, F., 14, Brynheulog Street, Port Talbot, Glamorgan. July 14, 1933, No. 19901. [Class 20 (ii).] Rolled arched bars of H- or I- section for use in mines are formed with webs having lateral projecting portions adapted to be received into corresponding recesses in the joint plates. The projections may be in the form of ribs, formed by corrugating a web of uniform thickness, and the web may be corrugated in part or for the whole of its depth, the joint-plates 22 on each side having interfitting ribs and central apertures for the securing bolts. The web of the section may increase in thickness from the centre to the flanges and be provided with spaced trapezoidal ribs 24, the joint-plates being recessed on their inner faces at 27 to lighten them. The ribs may not be continuous lengthwise of the rolled sections, but may be interrupted with gaps 29, the projections thus formed serving to grip the ends of the spacers for the arches.
