Abstract

380,759. Two-stroke engines. MICKELSEN, V., MOLLER, E., and REBBECK, F. E., of Harland and Wolff, Queen's Island, Belfast. May 6, 1932, No. 13085. [Class 7 (ii).] In multi-cylinder engines wherein the exhaust ports D of each cylinder are in an extension of the cylinder and are controlled by an auxiliary piston B, the latter is moved inwards by an eccentric or its equivalent on a shaft G driven from the main crank shaft ; the piston is moved outwards by the pressure within the cylinder and a spring M, there being no positive connection between the piston and shaft G. In one form the eccentric acts through a swinging arm ; in another arrangement a roller is mounted on a crank pin and bears directly on the piston top. As shown a flat-faced block W is carried on a crank pin F and slides across the top of the piston B.
