380,635. Extinguishing and preventing fires. FOAMITE FIREFOAM, Ltd. and CARTER, H. H., 57, Great Marlborough Street, London. Oct. 20, 1931, No. 29110. [Class 47 (ii).] An extinguishing arrangement for apparatus in which oil in a confined space is subject to heat, such as oil-cooled transformers, is brought into operation when a diaphragm 3, which seals a vent pipe 2 for the apparatus, is fractured by excessive internal pressure. The diaphragm is fixed to one arm 4 of a bell-crank lever, the other aim 5 of which carries a mercury switch 6 which normally is open. The switch is in circuit with the electrically-operated valve 9 of a gas bottle 10 arranged to discharge its contents into the vent pipe 2 by means of a nozzle 12. A hand switch 13 is included in the circuit.
