Abstract

379,428. Vented stoppers. INGRAM, H., 1901, Jacob Street, Wheeling, West Virginia, U.S.A. June 16, 1931, No. 17465. [Classes 21 and 125 (iii).] A tumbler or jar is furnished with an inner service cover 6 and with an outer hermetic closure 7 of thin metal formed with a vent hole 16 to release trapped air or excess of pressure. The metal 7 is flexed outwards by pressure within the jar and on such pressure being relieved, seats upon a valve disc 17a which may be supported by a knob 18 on the cover 6, and may have a plug 20 to enter the hole 16. The closure is sealed by a rubber gasket 13 compressed within a channelled rim of the form shown, or it may take the form of a screwed cap. Fig. 8 shows a modification in which the valve consists of a slightly dished ring 17b surrounding a depending flange 20b around the opening 16, and in another modification the valve consists of a sleeve with bevelled upper and lower edges, placed around the knob 18. In the latter case the sleeve may have a friction facing to serve as a finger grip for the knob.
