Abstract

Non-dyeing thio-derivatives of phenol are obtained by heating phenol sulphur, and alkali or alkaline earth hydrosulphide in the proportions of 1 mol. : 2 atoms : \ba1/4\be to \ba1/2\be molecular or equivalent respectively. Examples are given of the use of sodium and barium hydrogen sulphides. The products are mordants and basic dyestuffs. They may be further treated with alkali sulphite in presence of an oxidizing agent to give products suitable for reserving animal fibres. Specification 369,905 is referred to.
