Abstract
378,987. Locking by frictional devices. HEYWOOD & CO., Ltd., S. H., BROWNE, C. L., Station Road, Reddish, near Stockport, PRICE, T. L., 9, Holders Hill Road, Hendon, and FAULKS, J. V., Newmount, Windsor Terrace, Hampstead, both in London. May 27, 1931, No. 15474. [Class 103 (i).] In traversing gear for an overhead traveller a rotatable driving member is automatically coupled to a driven member, controlling the position of the traveller, by relative rotation and a circumferentially notched member, normally maintained by resilient means in engagement with an abutment extending from the frame of the traveller so as to prevent movement of the latter, is displaced axially to avoid the abutment by such relative rotation. As shown, a pulley 1, engaging a wire rope extending along the track of the traveller, is driven by a chain wheel 2 when a wheel 10, secured to the'pulley, has been removed from an abutment 15 on the framework 16 of the traveller. When the chain wheel is rotated a pin 4 thereon, positioned within a recess 6 of a boss 7 on the pulley, rides down the surface 8 and displaces the pulley axially against a spring 9 to remove the wheel 10 from the abutment 15, and finally rotates the pulley. Friction discs 11, 12 reduce the effect of the impact of the wheel 10 with the abutment 15 when the driving the wheel 2 is stopped whilst the traveller is moving quickly.
