Abstract
391,440. Escalators. HALL, Ltd., J. & E., 10, St. Swithin's Lane, London.- (Flohr Akt.-Ges., C. ; 35, Chausseestrasse, Berlin.) Oct. 14, 1931, No. 28592. [Class 78 (i).] The hand-rail is driven from the d r iv i n g wheels through the medium of co-operating frictional surfaces inclined to one another and to the direction of pressure of the rail upon the wheels. In one form the hand-rail h, Fig. 2, is provided on its underside with a wedge-shaped rib k which engages a correspondingly shaped groove m in the driving wheel a. The bottom of the rib may be plain, toothed, or corrugated. In a modification the hand-rail h, Fig. 8, engages the tapered rim p of the driving wheel a. In a further modification the driving wheel is provided on its periphery with jaws which are adapted to bear under spring pressure against the rib of the hand-rail.
