Abstract
501,460. Rope railways; railway stops; brakes. INTERNATIONAL COMBUSTION, Ltd., DAVIDSON, G. W., and HERBERT, S. L. Sept. 28, 1937, No. 26233. [Class 104 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIV] Mine trucks &c. 1 are moved by a series of wheels 4 carried by an endless chain &c. I and adapted to engage the track axles 3 near the tops of the wheels, so that if the trucks are obstructed or stopped, the wheels can pass on by lifting the trucks slightly. The wheels 4 are supported by rollers 8 running on a track 9 between the rails 22, and pass round pulleys 12 which have recesses 13 to engage the wheels and rollers. If the trucks are moving faster than the chain and wheels, they are braked by their axles striking and bumping over a series of the wheels. In the form shown in Fig. 5, the wheel is in two parts 5a, provided between them with a sinuous recess in which the cable 14 is gripped. The supporting rollers 18 have abutments 17 engaging guide rollers 19 in guide rails 20 arranged adjacent the track at curves, and other rollers 21 guide the rope. In the form shown in Figs. 10 and 11, the rope 14 is in two parts which pass round the outside of the guides 5a in recesses in the wheel spindle 7 and are clamped together by two-part balls 23.
