Abstract

293,170. Curran, T. H. May 25, 1927. Conveying from working face in mines; handling vehicles and transferable bodies.-In mine tramway wagons in which the chassis portion has rails over which the body portion can run, the. body portion has rollers or wheels on its lower side to run on the chassis rails and rails on its upper part to receive the rollers or wheels on other bodies. The mine tramway is so constructed that empty bodies may be passed from their chassis over full bodies and the full bodies replaced on the chassis. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the chassis A has rails a on which run wheels c on the body B, while rails d of the same gauge as the rails a are provided on the upper part of the body and have bridging sections n to connect them with the rails on other bodies. Locking means C is provided for securing the body to the chassis. The height of the top of the rails d above the top of the rails a is the same as the height of the top of the rails a above the tram rails b. When a train of empty wagons arrives at the coal face, the bodies are connected by links e, Fig. 3. and the rearmost body is secured by a cable f to a fixed point. An inclined bridge chassis H, which has rail wheels g and level and inclined rails G to take the wheels c on the bodies B is coupled to the rear chassis A, the bodies are freed, and the chassis are then drawn out, each body B being lowered by the chassis H to the tramway track which has a double set of rails to take the chassis wheels D and the body wheels c. When the bodies are filled, an empty train is brought up, the front filled body F, Fig. 4, is coupled to the rear wagon chassis A, a bridge chassis H is connected at the rear of the filled bodies, and a cable j passing over a pulley k is made to connect the rear filled body F with the rear empty body E. The empty bodies are then released, and the train pulled out, the empty bodies E moving backwards over the full bodies F which are moving forwards and have the bridging sections n in action. To lift the full bodies on to the chassis, a pit m, Fig. 5, is provided over which the rails bare normally carried by a bridge M pivoted at x. The bridge is lowered with the rear chassis, and the full bodies are drawn over the chassis into the required positions by a cable l.
