Cone and disc; actuated by running axle; force transmitting mechanism.-In progressively-acting braking- mechanism for a fireproof curtain, the curtain drum 2 drives a vertical shaft 18 carrying a member 19 travelling on the. screw-thread 18<a> and guided by a member 20. The member 19 increases the pressure of a spring 21, and thus of a friction block 22, on a brake box 25. The friction block 22 slides on a squared part of the shaft 18. The brake box 25 is held stationary by a pawl 26 engaging in teeth on its periphery, and is mounted on a hollow shaft 27 which is geared to a disc 30, locked in position by a removable finger engaging a notch in its periphery, the brake box being thus held immovable as regards both directions of rotation.
