Abstract
378,458. Knitting-machines. MILLS, J. A., The Limes, Clumber Street, East Kirkby, Nottinghamshire. May 12, 1931, No. 13996. [Class 74 (ii).] The necessity for reciprocating the needle cylinder or knitting cams of a circular machine when making heel or toe pockets or like work is obviated by imparting a complete revolution to the cam ring alternately with a like movement of the needle cylinder in the same direction. The needle cylinder A and cam ring B are mounted upon independently rotatable sleeves C, D. The sleeves C, D are connected to a driving ring G by an epicyclic gear train and means are provided for holding either sleeve as required. The sleeve holding means preferably comprises projections L, M on the sleeves C, D and detents O, P. The detents O, P are mounted upon a rocking shaft N, which when the heel and toe or like work is commenced is actuated by a cam-operated member R to bring the detent into engagement alternately with the two projections L, M. Brake bands W, V may be arranged about the sleeves C, D for reducing the speed before engagement of the detents and projections.
