406,181. Knitting. MEIWALD, F., 34, Sturzgasse, Vienna. June 22, 1933, No. 17781. Convention date, June 22, 1932. [Class 74 (ii).] Machines for knitting single or multiple ply tubular yarns are provided with a needle cylinder 1 driven at constant speed and one or more lifting rings 4 surrounding the needle-butts 3. The rings 4 are moved up and down bv mechanical electrical hydraulic or pneumatic means, the number of lifts per revolution being varied by the use of variable speed gears. If the number of lifts divides into the number of needles it is possible to work two or more tubular cords simultaneously. The stroke can be varied by adjusting the point of attachment of a camactuated rod 12 to the lever 13, or by moving the fulcrum 14. A lifting ring may be carried by jacks, the butts of which run in a cam groove with, say, four lifts.
