Abstract
378,047. Track brakes for vehicles. GES. FœR OBERBAUFORSCHUNG UND RANGIERTECHNIK (formerly GES. FœR OBERBAUFORSCHUNG), Europahaus am Anhalter Bahnhof, Berlin. May 5, 1931, No. 13291. Convention date, May 13, 1930. Addition to 358,767. [Class 103 (i).] In eddy current track brakes for vehicles, as described in the parent Specification, the energizing winding is constituted by a number of coils 4 each surrounding a core 3 connecting the upper and lower parts 1, 2 of the brake bar. The bar is mounted on inks 5 so that it may engage the side of the vehicle wheel 10. To reduce leakage of the magnetic flux on the side of the bar remote from the wheel, it may be cut away as indicated by the line 11. This leakage may also be reduced by increasing the distance between the parts 1, 2 of the bar as shown in Fig. 3 and to further increase the braking action the bar is provided with polepieces 12, 13 to enable contact with the wheel to be effected along a longer chord than would otherwise be the case. The polepiece 13 is carried by plates 18 secured to the part 2 and is separated from the polepiece 12 by a piece 14 of non- magnetizable material.
