Abstract

279,648. Peterson, J. W., and Juner, T. C. June 7, 1927. Magnetic devices for securing or increasing adhesion are characterized by the fact that each pair of positively-driven wheels 4 constitutes with the axle 1 and a magnetizing coil 5 a unit under the control of an independent switch 15. Thus the number of axles magnetized may be varied according to requirements. In the construction shown the axles 1 are coupled by rods 16 to the driving axle proper 2, and the coils 5 are fed through a battery 8 and a common resistance 12. One battery terminal and one end of each of the coils 5 are connected to the vehicle frame. Instead of the battery 8 the coils may be fed from a dynamo or from the track if the latter is electrified.
