Abstract
377,729. Vapour engines. SHIBUKAWA, Y., 1068, Oazo Nippori, Nipporimachi, Kitatoshima-gun, Tokyo-fu, Japan. April 22, 1931, No. 11966. Convention date, April 23, 1930. [Class 122 (iii).] In a liquid air power plant, the air is forced by a pump 3 from a container 1 to a vaporizer 10 through which dry air at atmospheric temperature is circulated by a fan 11. The air is vaporized at a temperature of -141‹ C. and a pressure of 40 atmospheres. The air enters a power cylinder 17 from which it exhausts to a liquefier 6 at a pressure of about 8 atmospheres and a temperature of -169‹ C. The air from the cylinder 17 is partly liquefied and passes through a low-pressure, tandem, power cylinder 20 from which it exhausts at a pressure of 1À3 atmospheres and containing about 70 per cent liquid to the container 1. The liquid air, normally at a pressure less than 1À3 atmospheres, is forced by pump 3 to the liquefier at a pressure of 40 atmospheres, and from there through pipes 7, 9 and around the compressor 8 to the vaporizer. The liquid and gaseous air deli vered from the pump 3 and container 1 respectively passes to the liquefier at a temperature of -193‹ C. The elements of the liquefier 6 are arranged concentrically in a helix. The gaseous air is delivered by pipe 25 to the compressor and is compressed to a pressure of 40 atmospheres.
