Abstract
Products stated to be useful in the textile and related industries as dispersing agents are prepared by treating with sulphonating agents, aliphatic and cycloaliphatic secondary and tertiary amines containing at least four carbon atoms and one hydroxy group or double bond or derivatives thereof. The products may be used alone or in association with soaps or other wetting or cleansing agents, e.g. turkey red oils, naphthalene sulphonic acids, or sulphonated oleic or palmitic acids. In examples: (1) N-b -ethylhexyl-N-monoethanolamine, is treated with sulphuric acid; N-cetyl-N-ethanolamine and N-cyclohexyl-N-diethanolamine may similarly be sulphonated; (2) N-n-butyl-N-monohydroxyethylamine is sulphonated in ethylenechloride with chlorsulphonic acid; (3) the hydroxyethylether of N-di-n-butyl-N-hydroxyethylamine is sulphonated in carbontetrachloride with sulphurtrioxide: (5) N-n-butyl-N-hydroxy-iso-propylamine is sulphonated with sulphuric monohydrate. The following amines are also specified: N-b -ethylhexyl-N-dihydroxyethylamine and N-cyclohexyl - N - hydroxypropyl-iso-propylamine. A product useful as a washing agent is obtained by treating oleylmethylamine in ethylether with chlorsulphonic acid. Specifications 181,750, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], 337,737, 337,774, [both in Class 1 (i), Chemical processes &c.], 353,232, and 364,000, [Group IV], also are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 359,001.ALSO:Products stated to be useful in the textile and related industries as wetting, cleansing, washing, and dispersing agents are prepared by treating with sulphonating agents, aliphatic and cycloaliphatic secondary and tertiary amines containing at least four carbon atoms and one hydroxy group or double bond or derivatives thereof. Organic diluents such as ethyl ether, ethylenechloride or carbontetrachloride may be present. The products, which are especially suitable for washing wool in acid, neutral or alkaline baths, and in mercerizing, may be used alone or in association with soaps or other wetting or cleansing agents, e.g. Turkey red oils, naphthalene sulphonic acids, or sulphonated oleic or palmitic acids. In examples: (1) N-b -ethylhexyl-N-monoethanolamine (obtainable from ethyleneoxide and b -ethylhexylamine) is treated with sulphuric acid; N-cetyl-N-ethanolamine and N-cyclohexyl-N-diethanolamine (obtainable from 2 mols. ethyleneoxide and 1 mol. of cyclohexylamine) may similarly be sulphonated; (2) N-n-butyl-N-monohydroxyethylamine is sulphonated in ethylenechloride with chlorsulphonic acid; (3) the hydroxyethylether of N-di-n - butyl - N - hydroxyethylamine (obtainable according to example (6) of Specification 364,000) is sulphonated in carbontetrachloride with sulphurtrioxide; (5) N-n-butyl-N-hydroxy-iso-propylamine (obtainable from n-butylamine and propylene oxide) is sulphonated with sulphuric monohydrate. The following amines are also specified: N-b -ethylhexyl-N-dihydroxyethylamine and N-cyclohexyl - N - hydroxypropyliso - propylamine. A product useful as a washing agent is obtained by treating oleylmethylamine (prepared from oleyl sulphuric ester and methylamine) in ethylether with chlorsulphonic acid. Specifications 181,750, 337,737, 337,774, [all in Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], and 353,232 also are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 359,001.
