[Class 81 (ii).] In filter boxes c for respirators comprising a mechanical filtering layer and a granular non - hygroscopic chemical or adsorbent layer, the granular layer is divided, one part f being in front of, and the other part k behind, the mechanical filtering layer h. The layer f acts as a coarse mechanical filter thereby prolonging the life of the layer h. An additional chemical layer n may be provided. The box is furnished with a perforated cover c and perforated screens p, g, i, m, o between and enclosing the layers.
