Abstract

379,381. Respirators. VOKES, C. G., 95, Lower Richmond Road, London. Nov. 10, 1931, No. 917. [Class 81 (ii).] The face mask 1 of an air-filtering respirator is flexibly connected to the e filter 18, and is formed with an opening opposite the mouth fitted with a spring closed door 16 so that the wearer may spit without removal of the mask. The mask is preferably formed of rubber provided at its edge with a strip or wire 2 of lead or other deformable metal enclosed in a textile strip. Exhaling valves 14, a valve, not shown, for release of condensed moisture, and valves 15 in the flexible inhaling tubes 4, may be provided. The filter, which hangs freely, or may be strapped to the wearer's chest, comprises a casing with inlet openings 7, dust outlet openings 8 and a vertically pleated filtering layer 9 of felt or flannel supported on or between a layer or layers of wire gauze. The inhaling tubes 4 may be connected to the filter casing at a point behind a single filter unit, or within a closed filter unit as shown in Fig. 4.
