Abstract
527,851. Air filters for gas masks &c. MINE SAFETY APPLIANCES CO. April 21, 1939, No. 12038. Convention date, April 26, 1938. [Class 81 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] An air-filtering element consists of a sheet of filter material formed into a series of accordion folds one layer of each fold being narrower than its other layer, whereby the folds only partially overlap, and means, of about the same thickness as the sheet, spacing the folds apart, the element as a whole being substantially flat. The sheet 9 is folded as shown in Fig. 3 and between the folds are disposed narrow strips 19, which if of flexible material such as tape may be so located by placing the tapes on the filter material before folding, or if rigid or semirigid may be inserted after folding. In the construction shown, which is suitable for use in a canister of the kind described in Specification 450,369, the filter element is clamped between a casing 1 and a rib 17 of an outer casing 6 having a perforated face 8. The casing I is connected to breathing &c. apparatus by a coupling 4.
