Abstract
464,372. Respiratory apparatus. GUILLEMIN, J. L. May 5, 1936, Nos. 12721 and 12722. Convention dates, May 28, 1935 and March 24, 1936. [Class 81 (ii)] In closed respiratory apparatus wherein a single air-flow path is provided, between the face-piece and the breathing bag via carbondioxide absorbent, for both inhaling and exhaling phases, the apparatus being valveless, the soda or potash absorbent is distributed in granular form on a support or supports 13 in a cartridge 5 removably housed in a container 1 supporting the breathing bag 2 and an oxygen cylinder 4. The cartridge may be tubular and may be connected by a screw ring on the container with a breathing pipe such as 7 into which the oxygen supply opens, the soda or potash being sprinkled on fabric or cotton wool packed loosely in the cartridge. As shown, the absorbent is carried within supports comprising gauze strips 15 folded longitudinally and held in side frames 13 with spacing members 14 ; the supports are superposed in a rectangular cartridge 5 housed within a casing 17 carrying the breathing pipe 7 and extending into the container 1. The cartridge 5 has apertures at 10 and 8a, spacing members 9, a flange 6 abutting, through packing 19, against the container wall, and is held by a screw 21 in a stirrup 22 acting through a deformable cover plate 18 on casing 17 which bears upon a removable cover 11 for the cartridge. Oxygen is delivered to the cartridge through a pipe 8. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers to the absorbent layers as arranged spirally or pleated like an accordion. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
