Abstract
Insecticidal compounds of the aromatic series containing both esterified carboxyl groups and esterified or etherified hydroxyl groups are obtained from the corresponding hydroxy acids by known methods of esterification and etherification. The substances specified are 2-methoxy-1-benzoic acid phenyl ester, 2-phenoxy-1-benzoic acid butyl or methyl ester, 2-acetyloxy-1-benzoic acid propyl ester, 2-methoxy-5-chlorobenzoic acid amyl ester, 2-chloro-4-methoxy-1-benzoic acid propyl ester, benzoate of p-hydroxybenzoic acid ethyl ester, ethoxycresotinic acid amyl ester, 3 : 5-dimethoxy-4-ethoxybenzoic acid amyl ester, 2-methoxy-1-naphthoic acid amyl ester, 2-isoamyl-hydroxy-1-naphthoic acid butyl ester, 3 : 5-dimethoxybenzoic acid benzyl or amyl ester. Specification 358,279 is referred to.ALSO:Preparations for killing insects consist of aqueous emulsions, or solutions in organic solvents, of aromatic compounds containing in the nucleus both esterified carboxyl groups and esterified or etherified OH-groups. Active compounds specified are 2-methoxy-1-benzoic acid phenyl ester, 2-phenoxy-1-benzoic acid butyl or methyl ester, 2-acetyloxy-1-benzoic acid propyl ester, 2-methoxy-5-chlorobenzoic acid amylester, 2-chloro-4-methoxy-1-benzoic acid propyl ester, benzoate of para-hydroxybenzoic acid ethyl ester, ethoxy-cresotinic and amyl ester, 3 : 5-dimethoxy-4-ethobenzoic acid amyl ester, 2-methoxy-1-naphthoic acid amyl ester, 2 - isoamyl - hydroxy - 1 - naphthoic acid butyl ester, 3 : 5-dimethoxybenzoic acid benzyl or amyl ester. Petroleum distillates of boiling points of 190 DEG -280 DEG C. and 280-330 DEG C. are specified as solvents. Aqueous emulsions are made with emulsifying and wetting agents such as soft soap, sulphonated compounds of the aromatic or aliphatic series including those having the character of an ester, ether, or acid amide, and sulphonated resins and pitches. Other synthetic or natural insecticides, such as pyrethrum, or substances to improve the odour, such as isobornyl acetate may be added. The use of aromatic ethers as insecticides is referred to.
