[Class 35.] An armature oscillates under the influence of an alternating magnetic field, the period of which is equal to that of the oscillation of the armature under gravity. In the arrangement shown in the Figure, the armature c oscillates between the poles b. On the shaft d of the armature is moun ed an arm carrying adjustable weights f by means of which the period can be regulated. The shaft d also carries an arm o striking against elastic stops g, p ; when the machine is not working the arm o rests on the stop g. In a modification the arm o is dispensed with and the end of the shaft d is square, fitting into a rubber socket which holds the arm in the starting position when the machinery is inactive, but is too soft to disturb the period to a greater extent than can be compensated by adjusting the weights f.
