Abstract
A solution of copper sulphate is obtained by treating copper moistened with sulphuric acid with air at 0-100 DEG C., for example for a period of from 15 minutes to 24 hours, and dissolving the copper oxide thus formed in an aqueous solution of sulphuric acid. The operations of oxidation and solution may be repeated. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the initial treatment of the copper with air in the absence of sulphuric acid at temperatures up to 260 DEG C., and also simultaneous treatment with air and sulphuric acid. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 11633/98, [Class 1, Acids, alkalies, &c.], 9239/05, [Class 46, Filtering &c.], and 12812/08, [Class 1, Acids, alkalies, &c.].
