[Class 35.] The stator f of a single-phase induction motor of the homopolar t y p e comprises two toothed rims a, b carrying an annular coil c between them, alternate teeth being provided with shortcircuited coils to produce a starting torque. The coil-carrying teeth on the discs are coincident. The rotor d of conducting material is slotted at h and may be secured to a gramophone turntable g.
