[Class 29.] Evaporators.-In a flooded evaporator for a refrigerating machine the evaporator header b, which is fitted with a float operated inlet valve d, is provided with two pipe systems, one system g having its inlets h below the level of refrigerant in the header and its outlets l above, and the other i having both inlets and outlets k above. Ebullition in the system g, which always contains refrigerant, raises the level of refrigerant in the header causing it to flow into system i and be immediately evaporated. The volume of pipes g is not greater than the volume of header b. Baffles n are provided before the pipe outlets in the header to prevent the jets therefrom interfering with the action of the float valve.
