Abstract

375,017. Valves. PAWLIKOWSKI, R., 15, Cotthuser Strasse, G÷rlitz, Germany. April 23, 1931, No. 12077. [Class 7 (vi).] A valve 6 having a sharp or narrow seating surface for admitting powdered fuel is rotated during each period of opening, for equalizing wear, by the engagement of a projection 12 on the valve stem with a helical groove 14 in a ratchet wheel 13; or the valve seat 7 may be rotated. A second projection 27 on the valve stem engages a straight groove 24 in a second ratchet 23, which rotates in the opposite direction to the ratchet 13. During the opening of the valve the ratchet 13 is rotated, but during closing the valve itself is rotated. In a modification, the valve is arranged to open outwards, and may be formed with a squared upper end to its spindle, so that it may be turned by hand during the running of the engine. In a further form, a friction clutch at the upper end of the valve stem is brought into engagement with a rotating pulley as the valve opens.
