Abstract
374,682. Purifying liquids. GAUNT, J. G., 6, Bream's Buildings, London.-(Exportingenieure f³r Papier-und Zellstofftechnik, Ges. ; 3, Duisburgerstrasse, Berlin.) Aug. 6, 1931, No. 22342. [Class 46.] The cylinder of a vacuum pump is cleared of residual gases by the introduction of liquid during alternate or other selected strokes. Liquid is contained in a reservoir 20 surrounding the cylinder and adapted to supply liquid thereto by the operation of a valve 21. Gas is exhausted from a vessel 10 through a valve 11 on the upstroke of the piston; in the succeeding downstroke the gas passes out through a valve 14 in the piston covered by liquid. On the next upstroke the valve 21 may be opened allowing the valve 11 to close and filling the cylinder with liquid which is discharged on the next downstroke. The gas is washed by its passage through the liquid above the piston and may be collected. By filling the vessel 10 with a suitable gas and the reservoir with liquid to be treated, the liquid may be aerated or sterilized.
