Abstract

374,391. Television. KAROLUS, A., 5, Linnestrasse, Leipsic, Germany. Jan. 30, 1932, No. 2807. [Class 40 (iii).] In a picture-scanning device for television purposes, in order to permit the use of larger mirrors, two or more mirror-wheels 7 arranged side by side on a shaft 10 are adapted to sweep separate portions of the picture surface 8 and are brought into action successively by means of a shutter 9 or by a device for diverting the light from wheel to wheel. In the construction shown two wheels 7 are employed and are associated with an opaque rotatable shutter 9, 'in which two semicircular slots 11 are cut and which is rotated by gearing 12 at half the speed of the wheels. Preferably the diameter of the shutter is twice the diameter of the wheels so that the peripheral speeds at the point of incidence of the light are approximately the same. To avoid the use of slots, the shutter 9 may consist of a glass drum having the necessary portions rendered opaque by coating or painting with lacquer. More than two wheels may be employed, the number and disposition of the slots in the shutter being varied accordingly. The invention is shown as applied to a receiver incorporating a Kerr cell 4, and in place of the shutter 9 an arrangement for diverting the beam of light as required may be employed, e.g. by means of an intermittently reciprocated mirror disposed between the lens 6 and the wheels.
