Abstract
374,279. Grease-pump connections. WHITELEGG, R. H., Marlborough, River Road, Taplow, Buckinghamshire. June 12, 1931, No. 17147. [Class 99 (i).] Relates to grease pumps 15 in the form of a barrel which is provided at one end with a U-shaped slot 14 for attachment to the nipple 10 of the lubricator and at the other end with a plunger 19 adapted to bite off a charge of hard grease from a supply introduced in candle-like formation into a lateral aperture 22 in the barrel and to force same into the lubricator. Fluidtightness between the pump and lubricator nipple is secured by a metal bush 16, Fig. 1, which is mounted in a grease-tight manner within the outlet of the pump and is adapted to be forced against the head 13 of the nipple by the pressure of the passing grease. The internal diameter of the bush is at least equal to the diameter of the nipple orifice, and the outer end thereof may be faced with leather &c. The nipple is provided with a ball valve 11, and the head thereof is preferably button-shaped for engagement by the end slot 14 of the pump. In a modification, Fig. 2, the bush is constituted by the outer end of a liner 18 slidable within the pump barrel and within which the plunger 19 is adapted to be reciprocated. The invention is also applicable to pumps having a bayonet ,connection with the lubricator.
