[Class 52 (ii ).] In a foldable chair having a back 29 which can be folded down on to the seat 14, and legs 16, 17 which can be folded up under the seat, the back 29 and the rear legs 17 have fixed thereon plates 33, 34, whereof those at the same side of the chair are directly connected by a common pivot 35 located at a leverage distance from the axes 32, 47 about which the back and the rear legs fold. Links 38, 39, 43 and 46 are provided, and when folded, the chair can stand upright on the aligned edges 36, 37 of the plates 33, 34, Fig. 6. A notched and pivoted plate 50, normally held in locking position by a spring 54, may be actuated by the wire 55 and the bar 56, slidable on studs 57. The alternative locking means shown in Fig. 11 comprises a pivoted, notched and spring-pressed plate 89 provided with a finger-piece 93.
