Abstract
374,158. Sewing- machines. UNION SPECIAL - MASCHINENFABRIK GES., 33, Schwabstrasse, Stuttgart, Germany. March 9, 1931, No. 7211. Convention date, March 8, 1930. [Class 112.] Folding devices have a resilient guide for an elastic tape situated within the scroll of the folder. The elastic tape is tensioned by two puller-feed rollers 11, 12, the roller 11 being yieldingly pressed into engagement with the material pass: ng between the rollers. The fabric is fed through a hem folder consisting of a scroll member 13 attached to a plate 15 adjustably attached to the work-supporting arm 2, by screws 16. The folder has an " uncurler " plate 18 capable of being adjusted transversely to the line of feed. This plate uncurls the fabric edge as it enters into the hem pocket by the folder. The stretched tape is guided between two members 20, 21 hinged at 22. An adjustable edge guide 24 is adjustably secured to the underside of the plate 21 by a screw 25. This edge and the bent-down edge 26 of the plate form a guide for the elastic tape T, Fig. 7. The plate 21. is resiliently pressed towards the plate 20 by. a rod 32 pushed forward by a spring 35 to tilt a bellcrank lever 29, 30 to impart this resilient pressure to the plate 21 through its downward projection 28. The plate 21 is forced from the elastic band by turning the bell-crank lever 39 by the pedal chain 41 causing the plate 38 to push the rod 32 against the action of the spring 35.
