Abstract

343,318. Sewing-machines. UNION SPECIAL MASCHINENFABRIK GES., 33, Schwabstrasse, Stuttgart, Germany. Feb. 20, 1930, No. 5663 Convention date, Feb. 20, 1929. [Class 112.] Folding-devices ; work-guides.-A folder is located in front of the stitch-forming mechanism and means are provided for guiding an endless elastic tape through the folder into the pocket formed by the hem, the tape being stretched during the process. A bracket 10 attached to the cylindrical work support 2 carries a rod 12, 13. A sleeve 15, adjustably secured to the part 13, carries a standard 17 with an adjustable rod 18 carrying a roller 19 over which passes the elastic tape. The outward movement of the sleeve 15 is limited by a stop 16 and is prevented from moving forwards by a pawl 21 engaging teeth 20. The outer folding member 25 is carried on a bracket 22 secured to the bed 2 by screws 23, 23. A bar 26 slides below the bracket and carries a head 27 upon which is mounted the inner folding member 29. This is moved inwards or outwards by a handle 30 on the bar 26 and is retained frictionally by a spring 33. The fabric is hemmed in the usual way by the folder and the elastic, stretched over the rollers 19, 37, is fed into the pocket while two needles complete the hem by stitching.
