Abstract

374,086. Brake shoes. LAKE & ELLIOT, Ltd., Albion Works, and LAKE, W. B., Mount Place, both in Braintree, Essex. March 2, 1931, Nos. 6459 and 36104. Addition to 365,168. [Class 103 (i).] One or both ends of a brake-shoe lining of the type described in the parent Specification is or are connected with the shoe through the medium of screwed members and resilient means. In one form, radially disposed screws 4, Fig. 1, pass freely through slots or holes 3 formed in inwardly bent lugs 2 on the brake shoe 1. One end of each screw carries the lining 5 which is not otherwise secured to the shoe and a spring 9 is interposed between a nut 8 on the other end of the screw and the lug 2. The face of the shoe may be: serrated. In a modification, spring-pressed eye-bolts 14, Fig. 3, carrying the lining 5 pass through bearings or bushes 12 and pins 13 situated therein. Conical washers 19 may be interposed between the springs surrounding the eye-bolts and the bushes 12. Engagement of the ends of the band with the drum is prevented in each case by adjusting the tension of the springs. When only one end of the lining is resiliently mounted, the other end is riveted to the shoe.
