Abstract
373,958. Combined buffer and drawgear for railway &c. vehicles. KRUPP AKT.-GES., F., Essen, Germany. Feb. 1, 1932, No. 3006. Convention date, May 1, 1931. [Class 103 (v).] In a central buffer coupling for railway &c. vehicles the stem G of the coupler-head is supported and centralized by means of a transverse spring H suspended at its ends from fixed brackets R by a 'pair of links K that are free to swing in all directions, means being provided for damping the swinging movement. In the arrangement shown the centre of the spring H, which is located to the rear of the headstock B, is rigidly connected to a squared portion g<3> of the stem G by means of a clamping plate P, bracket M, and U-shaped clamp L, while the apertured ends h<1> of the spring engage with washers k<2> backed by nuts k<1> at the lower ends of the links K. At their upper ends each of the links K are provided with lateral trunnions k<4> engaging vertical slots r<2>, r<3> in brackets R secured to the longitudinal beams A, A<1>. Longitudinal displacements of the stem G are accommodated by the links K pivoting about the trunnions k<4>, while lateral swinging movements cause the links K to tilt against the influence of the spring H about either the right- or left-hand pair of trunnions k4 with the edges of the slots r2, r<3> as fulcra. To permit these movements of the stem G, its rear end is universally jointed to the draw-bar F by means of a sliding casing D receiving the forward end of the draw-bar, the stem G having concentric spherical surfaces g<1>, g<2> respectively engaging spherical surfaces j<2>, d<3> on the draw-bar F and the interior of the casing D. In place of the joints described for the upper ends of the links K, ball-and-socket frictional joints may be substituted, or springs may be provided for damping the transverse swinging movements of the links.
