Abstract
389,433. Spring-suspension systems for vehicles. KRUPP AKT.-GES., F., Essen, Germany. Dec. 9, 1932, No. 34943. Convention date, Dec. 24, 1931. [Classes 103 (vi) and 108 (iii).] In a spring-suspension system for railway &c. vehicles the intermediate member E, Fig. 3, connecting the supporting spring A and the underframe H is universally jointed to the spring and is in rolling engagement with the underframe, thereby being freely movable in all directions and submitted to pressure forces only. As shown, the spring A is fitted at each end with a ball socket B receiving the lower end e<1> of the member E, while the upper surface e<2> of the latter is formed as a portion of a sphere working on the spherical surface f<1> of a plate F inserted in an opening g<1> in an underframe bracket G. The diameter of the lower end of the opening g<1> is such that the upper portion of the member E cannot fall therethrough. Since, in any displacement from the normal or central position, the underframe H is raised relative to the centre of the ball e<1>, the weight of the vehicle effects a self-centring action.
