Abstract
373,909. Wire resistances. BRAY, G., Bagby Works, Leeds. Oct. 15, 1931, No. 28702. Convention date, Aug. 24. [Class 37.] In a sheathed heating element for use with a percolator, waffle iron, or other appliance, the metal sheath is open on one side to allow the refractory medium supporting a resistor to come into thermal contact with the appliance. Figs. 1 and 3 show a ring-shaped heating element in which a sinuous resistor 1 is embedded in a suitable compacted refractory medium 2, and encased in a metal sheath 3d of channelchaped cross section, whose edge portions 3b converge upon the medium to retain it in position, but terminate slightly short of its operating surface. The ends of the resistance are connected to terminals 10 supported by enlarged inner ends 12 embedded in the refractory medium, and nuts bearing on mica washers situated outside the sheath. Various shapes, triangular, V-shaped, &c. are described, and the operating surface may be given a glazed finish. Specification 357,969 is referred to.
