Abstract
373,885. Centrifugal separators. AKTIEBOLAGET SEPARATOR, 8, Fleminggatan, Stockholm. Sept. 10, 1931, No. 25411. Convention date, Sept. 16, 1930. [Class 23.] Light and heavy particles are simultaneously separated from liquid in a centrifugal separator and are retained in the bowl while the liquid is discharged. The bowl is divided by concentric cylindrical walls C, D, E into a number of compartments with openings F, G. H arranged so that the liquid travels in opposite directions in adjoining compartments. The liquid for treatment is supplied to the central pipe A, and as it passes outwards, light impurities are deposited on the exterior surfaces of the walls C, D, E and the heavy impurities are deposited on the interior surfaces. The purified liquid is led towards the axis through passages formed between the top plate J and the cover I, the flow being assisted by wings K and the liquid being discharged from the opening L. In a modification the liquid for treatment is supplied to the outermost compartment and the drum has a conical top plate ; the walls C, D, E may be of prismatic or conical shape and are arranged to fit between projections on the base of the drum. The channels U, V, Fig. 5, between the components are arranged to connect the mid points of the radial sections, so that the cleanest portion of the liquid passes on from each compartment. Conveyers S, assist in distributing the liquid uniformly. These arrangements may be employed in a separator having a horizontal axis.
