Abstract

373,680. Turbines. HOLZWARTH, H., 7, Goethestrasse, Diisseldorf, Germany. March 6, 1931, No. 7103. [Class 110 (iii).] In a plant comprising a combustion turbine, a continuous-flow gas turbine and a number of steam turbines, the exhaust gases from the combustion turbine are cooled in a superheater for steam which is generated by waste heat in the exhaust gases from the continuous-flow gas turbine. Gases are exploded in a number of chambers 1, fed to a turbine 2, and exhausted through a trunk 5 to a continuous-flow turbine 6 before passing to the atmosphere by way of a trunk 7. Water from a container 9 is pumped to cooling jackets .3. and a pipe 13, passes through a reducing valve 15 to a storage tank 17. Steam from the tank flows through superheaters 19, 20, to a steam turbine 22, and through a further superheater 23, to a L.P. steam turbine 25 whence it is exhausted to a condenser 26 and a heater 28 to return to the container 9. A pump 16 also supplies jackets 3 taking water from the, tank 17 and passing it through a heater 12 and pipe 11. Steam from a turbine may be used for cooling the blades of the combustion turbine or an external mixed combustion and steam turbine, or may be re-heated and re-admitted to another stage of a turbine. Steam leaving the tank 17 is preferably wet with a moisture content of 10 per cent to 40 per cent.
