372,692. Valve amplifying and detecting circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., Marconi House, Strand, London.-(Assignees of Roberts, W. van B., 155, Hodge Road, Princeton, New Jersey, U.S.A.) Oct. 30, 1931, No. 30120. Convention date, Oct. 30, 1930. [Class 40 (v).] To facilitate the ganging of the tuning of a supersonic heterodyne receiver the oscillator 5 is tuned to the signal and the required difference frequency is produced by an auxiliary oscillator 6 tuned to the intermediate frequency, and only one of the side frequencies produced by modulation is used to beat with the signal frequency. The auxiliary modulating oscillator 6 is connected in parallel to the oscillator 5 through a choke 16 and a filter F is interposed in the coupling C of the detector 2 to the oscillators to suppress one of the beat frequencies produced. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also an arrangement in which the filter F is omitted, in which case the two oscillator voltages applied produce two beat frequencies which, if unequal, give audible beats in the final detector so that for receiving telegraphy a second heterodyne is unnecessary. For telephony the oscillator 5 must be maintained exactly synchronous with the carrier frequency with thi.s modification. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
