Abstract
N-Alkyldiiodochelidamic acids are manufactured by treating diiodochelidamic acid with an alkylating agent. The products are useful for pyelographic purposes. In examples: (1) diiodochelidamic acid is dissolved in excess caustic potash solution and treated with dimethyl sulphate, after which hydrochloric acid is added to liberate N-methyldiiodochelidamic acid; unchanged diiodochelidamic is removed by the addition of ferric chloride to precipitate the ferric salt, from which the free acid may be recovered by acidification with hydrochloric acid; (2) methyl iodide is employed in place of dimethyl sulphate.
