371,821. Knitting-machines. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd., 22, Hanover Square, London, WELCH, S. A., GUYLER, A. F., BOALER, W. H., and ASHBY, J. T., of British Celanese, Ltd., Spondon, near Derby. Jan. 26, 1931, No. 2479. [Class 74 (ii).] The yarn guides 60, 61 of a knitting machine are mounted upon a carriage 64 driven by links 70, 71. engaging cams 67, 68 upon the cam carriage 17 in such manner that the yarn guides are traversed positively in lead of the knitting cams in each direction. In a straightbar machine having fixed needles the yarn guides are traversed in lead of the sinker cams. The link 70, in movement of the cam carriage towards the right in Fig. 1, engages a notch 72 upon the cam 67 to traverse the yarn guide carriage, until the link strikes an abutment 77 upon the cam carriage and is forced out of the notch and on to the flat part of the cam 67. Upon reversal of the cam carriage the link 71 engages a notch 73 in the cam 68 to drive the yarn guides in the opposite direction. The cams 67, 68 are mounted for endwise adjustment to vary the lead of the guides. In a modification the links 70, 71 are adjustable, and a single cam such as 67, but having a ramp instead of notches, is provided. The traverse of the cam carriage may be regulated as in Specification 342,679, and sinker cam driving mechanism as in Specification 371,838 may be used.
