371,721. Ball and roller bearings. HOFFMANN MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., Chelmsford, Essex.-(Assignees of Bott, G. R. ; 8, Howes Avenue, Stamford, Connecticut, U.S.A.) Aug. 5, 1931, No. 22193. Convention date, Sept. 16, 1930. [Class 12 (i).] A packing ring 14 of felt is positioned in a groove 10 of the outer race ring 5 of a ball or roller bearing and is held in position by split spring rings 11, 12 at the sides. Between the outer ring 12 and the felt ring 14 is a ring 15 of paper, fibre or other material impervious to lubricant. A packing ring. 14 may be arranged on each side of the row of rolling members 9. The split 13 in the spring rings 11, 12 may be inclined and the inner ring 11 may be perforated to permit the felt ring 'to absorb lubricant.
