Abstract

371,659. Fluid-pressure brakes. HALL, F. H., Cleeve Cottage, Holford, near Bridgewater, Somerset. June 5, 1931, No. 16431. [Class 103 (i).] Relates to hydraulic and other fluid-pressure brake systems for vehicles of the type in which the fluid is forced from a master cylinder to the brake cylinder or cylinders 2 through the inlet passage 5 of a piston-valve cylinder 1 and forces the spring-pressed valve piston 7 to travel a predetermined distance before placing the master cylinder in free communication with the brake cylinders 2 by uncovering a passage or the like 3 in the 'valve cylinder, the piston being returned on release of the brake when a limited quantity of fluid has been returned to the master cylinder. According to the invention, in order to prevent leakage of fluid from the brake cylinders past the piston 7, a washer, ring or pad 12 of soft material, e.g. rubber, leather, or lead, is formed as a fixed seating engaging the flat, conical, round or other shaped end of the piston 7, Fig. 3, or a part carried by the piston, or the washer &c. 10, Fig. 1, is carried by the piston 7 and engages a seating 11 at the end of the cylinder 1.
