Abstract

739,459. Fluid-actuated valves. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. March 2, 1954 [March 26, 1953], No. 6028/54. Class 135. [Also in Group XXXIV] A double-acting check valve for a master cylinder of a hydraulic brake system consists of a disc 36 with perforations 42 between a pair of radially spaced, annular seats 37, 38, and a flexible, e.g. rubber-like annulus 40 engaging the seats and the periphery of a dished disc 50 which is perforated at 54 and spot-welded at 51 to the disc 36. Upon application of the brakes fluid entering the perforations 42 lifts the annulus 40 away from the seat 38 and passes through the perforations 54 to the brake line. When the brakes are released the return flow of fluid lifts the annulus 40 from a seat 55 in the master cylinder, a minimum pressure being maintained in the brake line by a spring 56 between the disc 36 and the piston of the master cylinder.
