Abstract
370,502. Lubricating-pumps. OLDHAM, R., Holmwood, Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire. Sept. 7, 1931, No. 37481/30. [Class 102 (i).] In a lubricating-pump of the type in which a two-diameter plunger 2 is employed, the annular chamber at the shoulder of the plunger drawing lubricant from a reservoir 4 and discharging it to a sight-chamber 10, from which the smaller end of the plunger withdraws the lubricant and discharges it to the outlet 27, the suction port 7 is controlled by a helical edge 6. The plunger is operated by a cam 3 against the action of a spring 5, and can be rotated by means of gearing 15, 16 and a knob 18, in order to vary the position of the edge 6 relatively to the part 7. The passage 20 from the chamber 10 leads to a port communicating with a recess 21 in the plunger, from which passages 24 controlled by a valve 23 lead to the end of the plunger. In a modification, Fig. 2, the plunger 2 is formed with an axial suction passage 9 and reciprocates in a sleeve 30 formed with a helical edge 6, with which the end of the passage 9 co-operates. The sleeve 30 can be rotated by means of gearing 15, 16. In a further modification, the sleeve 30 is stationary and the plunger is rotated.
